ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Rolfe is the head guide for 360 over seeing every aspects of an expedition on the ground. He guides in the Himalayas, on mountains such as Ama Dablam (6,812m), Manaslu (8,156 m), Everest (8,848m), Lhotse (8,516m),  Cho Oyu, (8,201m) Mera Peak (6,476m) and Island peak (6,189m) usually combined with Everest Base Camp (5,550m). When it’s off season there, he heads for South America to climb on Aconcagua (6,962m), in Europe on Elbrus (5,642m) or he can found in the Pyrenees (his home ground) running expedition skills courses.
  • One of Rolfe’s favourite mountains is Kilimanjaro (5,895m) and he has been to its summit 59 times (more than any other western guide).
  • In an epic ‘boy’s own adventure’ Rolfe spent two years in the Amazon basin, hacking through the jungle, wielding machetes, paddling 4,500km of uncharted tributaries in Brazil and Bolivia in dug-out canoes, and living with tribes who had rarely encountered foreigners.
  • He spent four months in the Congo Rainforest basin paddling 1,100km up the Congo and Mawimi rivers, dodging angry hippos and civil wars, before trekking 450km from Beni to Kisingani.
  • In 2011, Rolfe was the first Australian to ski off the summit of Muztagh Ata (7,548m) in the Himalayas, after a completely unsupported ascent, a style that he excels at.
  • In 1998 he and his wife, Marni lived with a remote, unvisited Samburu tribal community in Kenya and afterwards with the Hamar of Ethiopia, where he was privileged to witness ceremonies unseen by outsiders before him.
  • Rolfe has climbed countless named and unnamed peaks in New Zealand, the Andes, Africa and in the Himalayas, and put up new routes in Greenland, and the Karakoram.
